Exactly four days after a glorious week on the Caribbean Sea, I found myself driving through an awful freezing rain to a bar in the Polaris area called Caribbean Jerks.

First Bite: Plantain Cafe

With grim winter cruelly settling into Central Ohio, doesn't a quick beach-directed trip to someplace sunny, warm and semi-exotic sound like just the ticket to lift your spirits? Relatively nearby Cuba would fit that bill nicely, but it's akin to forbidden tropical fruit due to our government's unfortunately enduring travel restrictions to it.

If the friendly new Latino-tinged comfort-food emporium called Louie's Grill didn't exist, someone would have to invent it. Oh wait, someone already did, and they named it the Starliner Diner.

Chili: Starliner Diner

The rocking and rollicking Latin-tinged Starliner Diner clearly took the con carne description to heart when it concocted its marvelous and bounteously beefy Starliner Chunky Chili.

Menu: Banana Bean Cafe

So what happened to all the poles? This I pondered as I peered around Banana Bean, because the cafe had clearly eradicated any trace of its previous existence. Now the welcoming and comfy bi-level two-roomer looks a bit like a well-off person's expensively finished den or basement.
